Creating a Comparison Report

A Comparison Report lets you export completed assessment answers for the same questionnaire side-by-side, with each partner's answers in its own column. Instead of scrolling through separate assessments one at a time, you get a single spreadsheet where every question is a row and every partner is a column — making it easy to compare responses at a glance.

This article walks through how to generate a Comparison Report from the Bulk Export flow on your Assessments list.

Before You Start

Keep the following in mind before building a Comparison Report:

  • All assessments you select must be responses to the same questionnaire. Comparison Reports match questions across assessments using the questionnaire's own question structure, so assessments from different questionnaires can't be compared.
  • Only completed assessments can be included in the export.
  • You can only select one assessment per partner. If two selected assessments belong to the same partner, the export request is rejected before it runs.

Note: If your selection doesn't meet these requirements, you'll see a validation message when you try to submit the export, and the report won't be generated.

Starting the Export

  1. Navigate to your Assessments list.
  2. Open the Bulk Actions menu and choose Bulk Export.
  3. Choose the questionnaire you want to run the report for.
  4. Choose Column Based Comparisons.
  5. Click Create.

What's Included in the Report

The generated workbook contains the following fixed columns:

  • Section Name
  • Sub-Section Name
  • Question#
  • Question Text

After the fixed columns, each selected assessment becomes its own column of answers. Answer column headers follow this format:

Published To (Assessment Name: Assessment ID)

Example: Acme (Assessment: 319167)

Each question appears exactly once, with every selected partner's answer to that question shown on the same row. A few notes on how specific answer types appear in the export:

  • Unanswered questions produce an empty cell for that partner.
  • Document answers show the attached filename rather than the file itself.
  • Table answers show [Table Data] rather than the full table contents.
  • All other supported answer types show their exported answer value, and no questions are omitted from the report.

Receiving Your Report

Comparison Reports are generated in the background and delivered by email, the same way as a standard Bulk Export. Once processing finishes, you'll receive an email with a link to download the report.

Note: If the export can't be completed, you'll receive a failure email letting you know the request couldn't be processed. If this happens repeatedly, contact support.

FAQs

What's the difference between Standard Row Based Format and Column Based Comparisons?

Standard Row Based Format exports full assessment details across rows, one row per answer — best for record keeping or internal analysis. Column Based Comparisons pivots the data so each partner's answers appear in their own column, one row per question — best for comparing answers across partners.

Can I include in-progress assessments in a Comparison Report?

No. Only completed assessments can be included.

Can I compare assessments from different questionnaires?

No. All selected assessments must be responses to the same questionnaire.

What happens if I select two assessments from the same partner?

The export request is rejected before it runs. Each partner can only be represented by one assessment in a given Comparison Report.

How are document and table answers shown in the export?

Document answers show the attached filename. Table answers show [Table Data] instead of the full table contents.
